Just watched this programme on iPlayer. It surpassed the standard of some of the earlier Horizon series, which I never thought could happen! An excellent account of the foundation of Cell Theory effortlessly combining information and gentle humour. More like this!

I would like to congratulate you on a fantastic job! I have just watched The Cell and was completely captivated, it was a show I had been looking forward to, and as a second year Biology student at Edinburgh University, it is a subject that lies close to my heart as well. I can't fault the show at all - a fascinating, awe-inspiring and brilliant look at scientific history.

You really must be congratulated for not just this one but all the recent historical science documentaries. The first episode of The Cell was quite wonderful as it took us from Leeuwenhoek's discovery of 'animalcules' through to the realisation that cells come from other cells. The recreation of Pasteur's famous experiment that disproved the theory of spontaneous generation was done beautifully. I await the next parts in the series with anticipation and hope they are equally stunning.

How much I am enjoying the series The Cell! For me this is TV at its best - fascinating stuff, brilliantly presented. More like this, please!

Outstanding. I do not think I have enjoyed a programme as much as this for a long time. I really hope this will be going to DVD.

A simply astonishing insight into the essence of life and current investigative and manipulative technology. Unveiling a functioning synthetic ribosome confounded my previous view that cellular machinery could not be understood. Total inspiration. Excellent description of all covered aspects.

A very good scientific programme - something we are all thirsty for!

I only recently gained access to BBC Four and 'The Cell' was one of the first programmes I watched on it. It was superb! I am not a scientist but the presenter explained everything so clearly and interestingly, and with such genuine enthusiasm and excitement for the subject, yet without being patronising. The last programme, with its account of the directions in which research is currently proceeding, was particularly awe-inspiring.
