I just wanted to send massive thanks for all the Creative Community involved in saving Union Terrace Gardens from a concrete tomb. Jonathan Meades' programme has certainly helped our campaign and it was just a fantastic showcase for the beautiful and unique city we live in.
Phil Thompson, AberdeenWho thought it was a good idea to give Jonathan Meades a few thousand quid and an hour to produce an hour of utterly self-indulgent TV? Like an interesting flavour of chewing gum, the programme catches your eye, but has no substance.
Jon Watson, HoveI'm sure that the programme was very interesting, however I had to reach for my OED so many times that I missed an awful lot of the programme. Does Jonathan have to use such obscure English or is he just showing off?
Hazel Garlick, OldhamMy son commented that an hour of Jonathan Meades was worth more than three years of school.
William Cullum, LondonI was delighted to find Jonathan Meades back on the television; his programmes are consistently exquisite in their production, presentation, style and content. My only worry (as is always the case when Jonathan Meades has a new show) is that I might be watching the last programme he decides to make - I've been hooked since I was 16-year-old and caught the tail end of an Even Further Abroad show in 1997. Please don't stop. Ever.
Ray F Beard, LiverpoolWhat qualifies Jonathan Meades as an expert on all things Scottish? I would normally value a programme about Scottish architecture, but do we really need to put up with all of Meades' sarcastic remarks about Scottish culture? I tuned in by accident and was rather stunned by his audacity. What makes him so perfect?
T Rennie, InvernessThese programmes have been a delight. Intelligent commentary on any subject is increasingly difficult to find - even on the BBC. A unique presenter, unique television, must surely be exported.
Paul Edwards, BostonI can say as a Scotsman that this programme is outstanding! I love that it's not popularist and it's fast paced and hard to take in and I had to watch it three times to understand it all, but it's worthy of the greatest BBC TV of the past.
Gary GreenOdd bloke, Meades, but I feel sure this has been by a long way the very best TV of 2009.
Miles Newman, LancasterYou can't watch Jonathan Meades lightly. I generally take a pen and notepad to write down all the artists, thinkers, buildings, quotes etc. that he mentions and take each programme as a starting point for further reading. It's such a jolt-to-the-brain and so stimulating. There's nothing like Meades on TV. He's just masterful.

Jonathan Meades really is a national treasure, and his Aberdeen programme was exceptional even by his high standards. The photographer deserves special mention, too. The early morning shots are stunning, and the camera angles throughout are terrific.
