Coral Guest
b. 1955
Coral Guest trained in fine art at Chelsea School of Art, working with abstraction and colour theory. She was awarded the Chelsea Drawing Scholarship and the Chelsea Travel Scholarship. She studied the indigenous flora of Japan during time spent in meditation in a Zen temple. Her Meditations on Nature Series began there, and is ongoing through a body of work that has a focus upon the transcendent aspects of the natural world comprehensible only through silence and meditation. Her work is exhibited globally, with solo exhibitions in London, New York, and Tokyo, and is represented in numerous collections.
Guest's work merges a perception of beauty with observable truth, and grand composition with intense detail. A remarkable range of tonal qualities characterise the watercolour drawings, establishing the work as classical flower painting in its contemporary form.
