Henri Fantin-Latour
1836-1904
Fantin-Latour, a French painter and lithographer, was well known for his flower paintings, which were well received in England. He counted many respected painters among his contemporaries, such as Manet, Monet and Renoir, although his traditional approach showed a marked contrast to their impressionist style. Despite their artistic differences, these contemporaries featured in his portrait paintings - it is to his credit that we know what many of these famous painters looked like.
He was married to another important flower painter, Victoria Dubourg. |
