English school?
Late 14th Century
It is not known who painted the Wilton Diptych - the name Wilton only signifies the painting's previous home in Wilton House, Wiltshire.
Experts even disagree as to the artist's nationality. The style of the work is known as International Gothic, and the artist could have been English, French or Italian. It is likely to have been painted in the last five years of Richard II's reign. |
