Sandro Botticelli
1445-1510
Widely regarded in his day as one of the best painters of the Florentine Renaissance, Botticelli is well known for his religious and mythological works. He was trained by Fra Filippo Lippi, and by 1470 he was master of his own workshop. Such was his reputation that he was invited to paint frescoes for the Sistine Chapel in 1481, and throughout his career he executed many portraits for the powerful Medici family. Botticelli is said to have influenced the style later adopted by greats of the High Renaissance such as Leonardo da Vinci, Raphael and Michelangelo. |
