The Faroe Islands
have a vibrant musical scene, which is perhaps surprising given their population
of just 50,000 souls. Singer Eivør Pálsdóttir began her musical
career aged only 12 when she toured with a Faroese choir, and has since lent her
talents to rock bands, orchestras and jazz ensembles.
Eivør's admirable range of contrasting vocal styles, from
clear soprano to open-throated screaming, is testament to that variation in her
musical experience, and her solo work has a haunting, unforgettable quality.
She has released three albums as a solo artist, and it is in this capacity
that she visits Celtic Connections. This performance was recorded at The Old Fruitmarket.
