Singer, gifted
guitarist and prolific songwriter Richard Thompson began his career as a founder
member of Fairport Convention, the band at the centre of the English folk revival
in the sixties. 35 years and nearly 40 albums later, Thompson remains one of the
most important figures to have emerged from the English folk scene.
Last year's
album Front Parlour Ballads marked a welcome return (in the studio at least) to
his acoustic roots, and this concert includes a solo performance of one of the
highlights from that album, 'A Solitary Life'. Recorded in the beautiful church
setting of Saint Andrew's In The Square, it's a must-see for any Thompson aficionado.
