THOROUGHLY MODERN ANTIQUES: APPLIANCES

In 1947 Christion Dior's New Look radically redesigned women's clothes to give them elegant curves and bags of sex appeal. It bid goodbye to years of drab, mannish war-time uniforms. This episode examines just how radical the New Look was and how for many women it was more of a dream than a reality.

BAD FOOD GUIDE

How awful were restaurant menus in the age of rationing, Spam and powdered egg? In 1951 Raymond Postgate, left-wing historian and author, published the Good Food Guide, which pointed people to 500 places to eat well.

The 1948 Olympics brought hope to a world emerging from the darkness of war, but the 'Blitz Spirit' was still required to ensure their success, as athletes stayed in POW camps and were forced to bring their own sandwiches.

In the decade following World War II, British scientists planned for a war which would be fought with chemical and biological weapons of mass destruction.

This psychological thriller stars Robert Newtown as the cold-blooded Dr Riordan who embarks on a plot for the perfect murder after confronting his wife and her latest lover.
