Desperate Dan from The Dandy, 14 April 1945Dudley Watkins (1907-1969)Starting on Boots staff magazine as a child artist, Dudley Watkins rose to become the star artist of the DC Thomson publishing empire. He became the only person DCT allowed to sign their own work. The son of a lithographic artist, Watkins' style was in the tradition of earlier artists like Tom Browne, with a light, playful humour. Watkins created favourite characters including Oor Wullie, The Broons, Ginger, Biffo the Bear, Desperate Dan and Lord Snooty. See details from this page.
