In PicturesComics Britannia: Biggles, Ron Embleton
Biggles from Express Weekly Comic no 15, 1960Ron Embleton (1930-1988)Ronald Sydney Embleton worked on a variety of adventure stories in TV Century 21 and the story of flying ace Biggles in Express Weekly. One of several British artists who started work only to be interrupted by national service, Embleton returned from Malaya (present day Malaysia) in 1950 to find a more American style in fashion. Adapting to suit this trend he produced strips including The Mohawk Trail, Rogers' Rangers and Stingray: moving with ease from Westerns to science fiction. Embleton even made the use of oil painting techniques in 1957's Wulf the Briton which he later also scripted. He went on to create TV credits for Captain Scarlet and erotic satirical work for Penthouse, but some of his best loved work was for the children's magazine Look and Learn.
