Real life politicians and diplomats have 24 hours to solve an international crisis.

Playing a fictional National Security Council, they convene in the Situation Room in the basement of the West Wing. Here they will tackle the crisis and advise the president what to do.

September 2004, Indonesia.

Terrorist attacks on a US destroyer and the UK Embassy have sparked a diplomatic crisis. Tensions are heightened when terrorists kidnap a US official.

They demand the release of al-Qaeda prisoners from Bagram Air Base, threatening terrorist attacks in London and Washington if the request is refused. The president and his advisors have to weigh up whether to release the prisoners or track down the terrorists.

Meanwhile, the president's running mate is involved in a road accident. Six weeks before the elections the potential scandal may force the president to drop him from the ticket.

Filmed on location in Washington DC, the Situation Room provides an intimate and exciting portrait of international diplomacy and crisis management.
