Sam Jones' film, shot in striking black and white, is an incredible portrait of a working rock group - from making a record in the studio to taking it on the road. We see all the backstage drama and inspired live performances of one of America's most critically acclaimed bands.
But the most remarkable thing about this film, apart from the excellence of Wilco's music, is the insight it offers into the economics of the record business.
Wilco are commissioned to make an album and then the album is turned down. But another division in the same company, Time Warner, come to the record's rescue by recommissioning it. So Wilco make money both ways.
