Anyone who wants to know either how good looking, or how effective Bill Clinton was, or wants the real dope on American politics has to watch this film.

Chris Hegedus and DA Pennebaker stumbled across the campaign of the Arkansas governor in its earliest phases. They pick up the candidate in New Hampshire, just as he is about to be assailed by a rash of accusations about his private life. Thereafter they stick with two of his backroom workers, James Carville and George Stephanopoulos. The rest of the action is seen through the perspective of these two men.

I don't think anyone has made a better film about American politics. It makes you wish that Tony Blair had had the bad sense to let someone film his war room in 1997. It also reminds one just how marvellous Clinton seemed when he first appeared - a man whose sexiness could well be overlooked, even if that was not the view of his former mistresses.
