In 1999 Londoner and self-described failed actor Jeremy Gilley had a great idea. He was going to create a day on earth on which there would be no killing. But for peace to break out Gilley had to turn himself into a one-man lobbyist and political activist.

The film he made is a tour-de-force - especially remarkable is the way it combines his own unstoppable enthusiasm with his cold eye.

One may want to change the world these days, but it would be unwise to contemplate doing so without numerous celebrities behind you. This is an early lesson for Jeremy. Another is that bureaucrats and politicians are slippery folk, at best concerned with their own reputations and their own constituencies.

Jeremy's scheme comes to fruition at exactly the wrong moment. Watch out for the stunning scene in which his day of peace is announced at precisely the moment when the planes hit the Twin Towers on 9/11.

Peace One Day is a strange but winning documentary - an absorbing film, but also a not wholly discouraging commentary on our times.
