Last year Liam Neeson gave a sympathetic portrait of the sexologist in a feature film, and now Alfred Kinsey, after a long period of neglect, is a controversial figure once more.
Did he genuinely want to expand the possibilities of human sexuality, redefining normality? Or was his research so deeply flawed as to be worthless?
Barak Goodman's investigations take him down unexpected paths and occasionally into the realm of the bizarre. It appears that Kinsey was indeed something of a sex guru, persuading his followers to perform with each other. He was also bisexual and many of his obsessional researches were misguided. But it's hard not to find a large-hearted person in this film.
