Town Bloody Hall captures New York intellectual life at a distinct moment - the arrival of feminism.

DA Pennebaker was there to record the splendid debate in the old Town Hall where the grizzled lion Norman Mailer confronted a great number of amused, or angry feminist sisters, all the while pretending to be the impartial moderator.

Mailer's performance is hysterically funny, even by the standards of his own excesses; but the sisters speak what now appears to be a good deal of sense. Those who can remember this cultural moment will enjoy the sight of the ravishing Germaine Greer in an off-the-shoulder dress.

Younger viewers will merely be amused at what their parents once did.
