Films about Latin America are often filled with the horrors of poverty; Gangs of Medellin is somewhat different. It focuses, in an almost Shakespearian style, on the life and loves of young gang members in Medellin, Colombia.
You might begin to think it's hell being a teenager, where you may get shot and you are involved in smuggling illicit drugs. But it turns out that the life of gang leaders like Edison Flores is rich and full of love. Although the consequences of his choices are clear, the film is refreshingly unjudgemental and, finally, strangely ennobling.
