Each day from all over Europe foreigners are sent back to where they came from. They may have been working in France, Britain, Denmark, or wherever for some years, but once it has been decided that they must go, that's that.

The Deported follows five stories - people returning to West Africa and Afghanistan. It captures both the flintiness of contemporary Europe and the disappointment not just of the deportees but of their families who scraped money together in the hope of giving them a better life.

This is not the view of immigrants as depicted in our tabloids, and as retailed by the Home Office.
