Historians will probably look back at the beginning of this century as the moment when the last few elements of old European elite craftsmanship disappeared under the pressure of globalisation. However, Chanel makes still very expensive clothes that are handcrafted in Paris.

This gem of a series describes the loveable and eccentric French women whose life's work has been to create pleats for the very rich. Karl Lagerfeld also makes many cameo appearances.

It's a joy.
