In the late 19th century, years before the heyday of Hollywood's silent movie era, a mill town in the Pennines became the unlikely home of a booming film empire. Spurred on by the success of his magic lantern shows, James Bamforth embraced the latest technologies and oversaw a series of innovative short films.
Using dramatic reconstructions and interviews, this documentary tells the extraordinary tale of Bamforth and his pioneering family of filmmakers. Holmfirth Hollywood also offers a special opportunity to see some fascinating footage from Bamforth's landmark films.
