HANNAH GLASSE: THE FIRST DOMESTIC GODDESS
BBC Two: Wednesday 31 January 2007 11.20pm-11.50pm

Join Clarissa Dickson Wright for a whirl through the eventful life and revolutionary recipes of Hannah Glasse (1708-1770), author of The Art of Cookery. Glasse found fame and fortune with her cookbook, which gave plain and easy instructions for low-cost fine dining and swiftly reformed the cuisine of the professional classes.

Clarissa pays tribute to the 'mother of the dinner party' by cooking some of Glasse's trademark dishes, including roast hare and curry. She also gives an enlightening account of the eating habits of the rich and poor during the 18th century.
