Michael Baron
  ABOUT MICHAEL BARON

Michael Baron, MBE, a retired solicitor, is the father of Timothy, a 46-year-old man with autism. Timothy now lives in a residential home.

Michael is one of the 12 parents who, in 1962, founded what is now the National Autistic Society.

In 1963, Michael set up, in his own home, a home-teaching unit for four children funded by the then London County Council. It was one of the first such units funded by a local authority.

In 1965 Michael was closely involved with the opening of the first dedicated UK school in Ealing. Now known as the Sybil Elgar School, named after its first inspirational head teacher.

In 1974 the first adult community for people with autism was set up at Somerset Court near Bridgewater.

Michael Baron was Chairman of the Society from 1962 to 1969, and for many years a Vice-President.

Michael's daughter, Saskia, is the producer/writer of The Autism Puzzle film.
