Margaret and Dennis Potter

Dennis Potter wrote and narrated this documentary, originally transmitted 3 June 1960, about his beloved Forest of Dean. It follows Potter's return home after three years at Oxford. He describes the changes he finds in both the life of the village and in his relationships with family and friends.

A number of intimate scenes include Potter and his wife Margaret, and the christening of their daughter Jane. It also gives insight into Potter's relationship with the Forest itself and some of the themes that would later resonate in his work.

During filming Potter recorded many village thoughts and voices, revealing desires about social status, views on comradeship, playing in the local band and the fortunes of the club.
