RICHARD II LIVE FROM THE GLOBE: YOUR COMMENTS
Monday 5 January 2004 8.30pm-11.55pm

We've been inundated with comments about our live coverage of Richard II from the Globe.

Many thanks for all your emails. This is a small, edited selection of your comments.

HAVE YOUR SAY

Thanks for showing Richard II at the Globe tonight. I'm not familiar with the piece but I'm thoroughly enjoying watching the spectacle unfold. I had hoped to visit the Globe when in London last month but fate - and the London power cut - conspired against me.
I also enjoyed the chance to hear interviews with Corin Redgrave and Zoe Wanamaker. It really made an occasion out of it - something I would not have seen had I been in the live audience. It more than makes up for my aborted trip so thanks once again to whoever took the decision to do this broadcast.
Colin Bordley

This was easily the best thing I have seen on television. I have seen Richard II twice this summer at the Globe but the programme notes at the bottom of the screen added to my understanding and enjoyment. Many thanks for a wonderful evening's viewing.
Fi Rosser

The Richard II production from the Globe Theatre was absolutely superb. I felt like I was a part of the live audience.
Mrs S Meadows

I was fortunate enough to be present at the Globe for the final preview performance of Richard II earlier this year, and counted it as the highlight of my, albeit limited, theatrical experience. We left the theatre that night, almost carrying on the dance back to London Bridge station. Thank you for the unexpected chance to relive such a memorable experience.
Richard Jackman

The production of Richard II from the Globe was the kind of broadcasting that makes one glad again that television was invented. I found it a magnificent theatrical feast, with an enriching and useful enhancement in the interactive accompaniment. The whole event was given an edge and special sense of occasion by being presented live. Superb.
Richard Ashton

Thank you so much for showing a commitment to the theatre. I hope that the work of the Globe and the outstanding performance of the cast, Mark Rylance in particular, will have become much more widely accessible thanks to your programme.
Allan Williams

Richard II at The Globe was absolutely wonderful. I have always disliked plays televised but this really did work. I was entranced and so was my 93-year-old father - who stayed absolutely alert for the whole thing.
Thank you for providing this wonderful television and thank you to Mark Rylance for his terrific performance.
Sheila McKean

British theatre at its very best. No frills, special effects, animatronics or other diversions. Just excellent production, direction and acting, from the whole cast, but especially Mark Rylance, whose Richard II was enthralling.
P Binsted

We were glued to the set throughout. Living in deepest Lincolnshire, we rarely see live theatre, least of all Shakespeare. One of the best things I've ever seen on any TV channel.
Kate Sullivan

I write to you with great glee. I'm moved, almost in tears, after watching Richard II. A joy to my ears to hear such beautiful language. Thank you BBC Four; thank you Sam Wanamaker!
Myriam Child, Kent

It was a great theatrical experience, captured really well on television. The camera work did not feel intrusive, the interactive notes were helpful and it was great to hear actors talking about the play with Andrew Marr. It has to be said, to really appreciate it, you do need a big telly!
Gerald Meehan

A brilliant performance by Mark Rylance. Reminiscent of James Dean. Yes, James Dean!
