Principal photography is underway on Mrs Brown’s Boys D’Movie, Brendan O’Carroll’s hilarious big-screen adaptation of his multi-award-winning, international hit comedy phenomenon Mrs. Brown’s Boys.
Starring Brendan O’Carroll and Brendan’s own friends and family, Agnes Brown’s foray into film is a rip-roaring comic romp set in the streets of Dublin.
When Moore Street market-trader Agnes Brown finds her livelihood under threat from a ruthless developer, she and her family embark on a campaign to save her stall, aided as only the Browns will be by a motley troop of blind trainee Ninjas, an alcoholic solicitor, and a barrister with Tourettes Syndrome.
In his feature debut, Mrs Brown’s Boys D’Movie is directed by Ben Kellett (director of the BAFTA, IFTA, and Scottish BAFTA award-winning BBC TV series) and produced by Stephen McCrum (Mrs Brown’s Boys).
Creator, writer, and star Brendan O’Carroll reveals his joy at filming the show in Dublin: “Following the international success of recent Irish films it’s delightful to be bringing Agnes Brown and family back to her rightful home at last. It’s amazing to see Mrs. Brown go from Radio to Books to Plays to Television and now to Film. It just shows that I know a bandwagon when I see one."
Director Ben Kellett agrees: “We are thrilled that we’ve managed to assemble such a brilliant cast and crew to realise this exciting new chapter in the development of the Mrs. Brown’s Boys story. It’s a very exciting prospect indeed."
Producer Stephen McCrum says: "After three series of the critically acclaimed, multi-award-winning, and multi-million-DVD-selling BBC and RTE TV series, it’s very exciting to see Brendan developing his fantastic creation into a new format. We’re very grateful to Universal Pictures, BBC Films and all our Irish investors for helping us make the dream a reality.”
