Biography:
How did you become a presenter?
After a number of years of hard work at the BBC Asian Network and sheer determination I finally got my big break.
What would be your dream job?
Writing a factual TV serial about the life of the Mirpuri Community in UK and for EastEnders.
If you could make one wish come true what would it be?
Creating a magic pill which could cure double standards in our lives.
What was your most exciting / memorable moment on air?
The most exciting would have to be interviewing the Pakistani singer Nahid Akhtar in 2003. This was her first interview in 15 years. I still pinch myself when I think about it. My most memorable moment was when I translated the breaking news in Mirpuri on 7th October 2001 of the US attack on Afghanistan.
Who would you choose to play you in a film of your life?
It would have to be Russell Crowe. I was very impressed with his acting in 'A Beautiful Mind'. It's a pity he didn't get an Oscar for it.
Which song makes you cry?
A ghazal by Faiz Ahmed Faiz.
What's the best advice you've got?
The harder you work, the luckier you get.
What is your motto in life?
Work hard and be myself.
