The ResidentsBack to the Chart
Zak AkhtarZak Akhtar
Played by Jetinder Summan

DOB: 2nd September 1986
FAMILY : Wife - Fatima (deceased), Parents - Pervaiz & Khatija; Sister - Nadia
LIVES: Currently living in a shared house in Glasgow
WORK: As a car mechanic down the road from Paisley
CHARACTER: On the streets and away from his family, Zak is definitely one of the lads but at home Zak shows a more sensitive side. He feels the responsibility of being the "future man" of the house but at the same time gets frustrated by the cautiousness of his dad.

"The name's Zakir - mates call me Zak. Bit of a whizz on the football field me. Well, not bad at 5-a-side in the park anyway! I used to like to spend my time hanging out with the lads - just having a laugh, playing pool and stuff. But I've come to realise now that I was just wasting my time hanging out with the likes of Arun Chauhan. I met people at college who showed me what's really important in life, my family, Islam and Fatima, my beautiful wife."

"It changed my life, going back to college and meeting Fatima. I was going nowhere working on the building site for Mushtaq, there's no future in that. But with dad off work since the accident I had to help out, Mum was working all hours, Nadia working in the salon, I had to do my bit didn't I?"

"I was really angry with both Sway and Nadia. She shouldn't have lied to us all and gone along with a rishta, and I thought Sway was a mate. I thought it would be ok when he was going to take the Shahada but when he walked out it just made everything worse. Mum and Dad had to go to Mirpur because of the shame."

"But just when I thought my own life was mapped out everything's fallen apart. I trusted Talib but after what the police told me I don't know if I ever really knew him. But the only thing that really mattered to me was Fatima. I live in Scotland now close to Fatima's parents. I still think about her everyday..."
