Take a look back at what your favourite and most memorable scenes from Sholay were.
Read what others have said..
Shivani, Midlands It has to be where Basanti is dancing on the broken glass to save Veeru's life. How romantic...no other film can come close to Sholay
ruturaj ahmedabad my favourite scene is one, when jay chooses to stay at the front and sends viru in the village
Soheli ,London One of my fav scene is when Amitabh playing flute at night and Jaya was putting off the lamps at the balcony. Very romantic. They did not have many dialogue but their silence said it all throughout the movie. My fav movie of all times.
mirza tahir well well well/// all the scenes from the sholay are unforgatable, but some of them are too touchy specialy when amitabh dieng and jiabahadury was standing and amitabh says "dekh veru yeh kahani be adhoori reh gae" is the most touchy sceen from the movie.
tahir baig delhi tera keya ho ga kaalia is my favourite scene from the movie
debasish, wakefield amitabh's asking basanti's mausi to give basanti's hand to veeru
Tarlochan Chahal from London Thakur yaad rakhana Duniya ki koi aysse dewwaar nahi hai, jo Gabar koo ruk sake, tuje yaad rakhoo ga , tuga yaad rakhoo ga. then gabar is taken away by policemen hand cuffed.
sensational bollywood blockbuster of alltime
My salute to Sippy brothers who made this possible.
SURJ, BLTYH, NORTUMBERLAND,UK I think it has got to be the start to the end.
sippy Montreal my favorite scene from sholay is the one where Veeru is drunk and go on the top of the water tank, ...."gaoo walaon, mein sucide kar reha hon........iss kai baad mausi chaki piecing and piecing....." it was the most funny scene in this movie
another scene was where jai and veeru are in jail. "haha hum agreijo kai jamanai kai jailor hai" asrani did a great job in this role....
sholay is the golden movie
love it
Sohail, Bradford My fav scene is when Jai(Amitabh) dies and Dharmendra realises that the coin he used was a double-sided one clarifying their close friendship- That kind of friendship you never get nowadays
Deepak Raval New Jersey jaydeep@optonline.net 4)Jai tossing the coin to save Veeru & Basanti
3)Kaam kya hai Bahadur ho tau iski fikar kyon karte ho ? Thakur Baldev Singh , Veeru & Jai
2)Khatro se khelne ka shauk chhot gayaa Thakur saab ?
1)Agar kisi ne hil ne ki koshish ki tau boond ke rakh doonga , Gabbar singh apne aadmi O se kehdo ke bandokey fek dey .
Kay, Manchester Sholay was out 20yrs before I was even born, but I would prefer it over some modern films anyday. My best bit is when Dharmendraji is on the water tank claiming his love for Basanti. It is just so romantic - this kind of acting can not be replicated by new actors in recent films.
Sohail, Bradford You just cant pick a favourite scene out of the film because quite frankly the list would be endless.Amitabh was awesome- what an actor. But Gabbar Singhs acting was sensational. Ramesh Sippy (director) man what a astonsishing movie. Gabbars role is irreplaceable. 'The greatest ever Bollywood movie'
Sohail, Bradford My favourite scene is got to be the part where during the 'yeh dosti' song, Amitabh & Dharmendra see a lady and they stop. Amitabh tosses the coin and amazingly it lands on the centre: Sensational, what a scene
Fatmata Turay Freetown The death of Sanjeev's family always moves me to tearsm even though I've watched it more than 20 times, and the love shown by Basanti (Hema) was heartbreaking, imagine it in a real life and get my point. Everything about Sholay is fantastic.
Ammad Ashraf, Cardiff I love the scene where Veeru (Dharmendra) is on top of a Water Tank, shouting out to the whole village that Basanti and her "Massi" have rejected him. He then pretends to jump off, only stopping after convincing Basanti to marry him. A barrel of laughs everytime!
salman, tamworth it has to be when at the end veeru finds the double headed coin and realises jai lied to him in order to save his life. That kind of fiendship you just dont see nowadays.
BALLY THAKKUR I was only 7 When my parents took me to watch Sholay at the
Princes cinema smethwick bhm I had continuous nightmares from then on until
the age of 16 years old. Every other night my parents would have to run into
my bedroom in the middle of the night to see what had upset me and all I
could tell themm was that Gabbar was after me and I was running away from
him. Sad innit?
Nilesh Nath, Seattle, Washington - USA Although I love SHOLAY from the arrival of the train in the first scene till the credits roll in the end, my favourite scene is the scene where Gabbar Singh attacks RAMGARDH after the Holi song, when he asks for Veeru to come out and Jai pretends to fall on his feet.
Aftaab From Birmingham My favourite scene from sholay is when Basanti Malini is talking to Dharmindera and she has just given him a ride in her tanga and it comes time for him to pay she say to him " Vaise aadmi toh tum bare ache ho lekin ghora(horse) ghaas(grass) se dosti karlega toh kayega kya". An i use this dialogue all the time.
Jasmina, Scotland SSOOOO many great scenes!! Thants what makes it the best ever film in History, there is no boring bits at all!! All scenes are memorable to me and its hard deciding them in order. It had to be the tense parts. Like when Gabber reacts his revenge on Thakur by amputtating him. That made a lasting impression on me on how sick and vile,(played excellently by Amjad Khan)was. As if killing his family weren't enough. Then the sad ending. I was about five when I watched it, (then I cried) and it still leaves a sad feeling everytime I watch it. SHOLAY RULES OVER MOST FILMS THESE DAYS.
TANVEER NAWAZ DERBY My favrouite scene in the movie is when Veeru is trying to teach Basanti how to shoot and while he was showing off to Basanti, then Jai isn the background says 'Ha James Bond Ke Bote Hai'
Aviral, Washington DC My favorite scene is the opening one where the heroes fight off the dacoits chasing the train. Very few people realize that this was the first time anything like this was done in Indian cinema. It needed specially trained horses and the cost of renting the train alone would have sent most producers packing. The scene is all adrenaline and action, a fine start to one of the finest movies ever made.
Jose Thomas Toronto Canada The technical perfection of the train robbery
The yeh dosti picturisation
The Gabbar dialogues
imran khan INDIA KITNE AADMI THE OH KAALIA .This is the best scene in INDIAN cinema that has ever been made to such expertise
narinder sahota - Telford The drama and characters in this film have rarely been repeated over the past 30 years. Every actor has their distinct role playing, and whilst I have not seen it myself for several years now, dialogues and songs from the film are still fresh in my mind.
Nahid, from Birmingham The "Chaki peesing and peesing" scene has got to be the best!!!
hetal from chicago i dont know why but i don't like this movie at all
sophia talwar from Redditch
i have lots of favorite scenes like "mera naam surma bhopali hae...
Rakesh Shah, Moscow One of my favourites is when Soorma Bhopali (Jagdeep) is spinning a yarn about how he captured Veeru and Jai single handedly. His Bhopali accent and mannerisms are just perfect and very very funny. And the really funny thing is his change of expression when he discovers that Jai and Veeru are standing right behind him.
Riz ------> Redditch My favourite scene of Sholay has to be- from Gabbar's entry to the film to when he asks when holi is taking place. That whole scene is full of dialogues that everyone remembers after watching the film. And Gabbar's outfit and style of walking and talking makes him the best don of all time. Big up Sholay, best movie of all time.
Peep, Preston the water tank scene is the best...always has been and always will be!
nazia, worcester "maine tera namak kaya hai sarkar..." Gabbar: "ab goli ka!"
Bhavesh, Leeds At 21, I wasnt around when the film was first released. Throughout my life, I'd hear all sorts of movie fans saying it is a must see. Wanting to know what the fuss was about, even though watching old movies is hard for me (cos of the picture quality and technicalities), I bought the dvd last year.
Throughout the movie, i was like, its ok, nothing special (having been bought up on the SRK classics) but it was that scene at the end, where Amitabh tosses Dharmendra to see who takes Hema and goes and then Dharmendra finding out that is was a matching-sided coin. It then hit bout the friendship and what a good mate he was.....
for that reason it will be a classic in my eyes
Hamid, Bradford, United Kingdom There's a scene where Basanti (Hema Malini) is carting the 2 heroes back to the village and as her character dictates, her mouth is going at 1000 words per minute. Amitabh is laying in the back and Dharmendra is taking an avid interest in what she's saying. At one point Hema asks "Youn k, tumne mera naam nahi poocha?" and Amitabh, having not said a word for 6 minutes on screen pipes up from the back "Tumhara naam kya hai Basanti?" and Dharmendra replies "Chup be! Jab be dekho bak bak karta rehta hai!"

Sholay has impact on everyone i would like to say, I still remember when we were kid , we use to play different role in the Movie.
PATRICK MORRRIS , Bloomington MN Hey, I love this movie. I watch this movie sometime in the late seventies and early eighties and I have been attached to it for a long time. My favourite part is when they are singing the song sholay. My wife favourite part is when they the police man was unable to pick up the gun and shoot at the bad guys. My daughter favourite part is when Jai was killed.
We are Liberians but we love the Indian movie and the Indian Community in Liberia is large and have live with us in our County for a long and they are very kind and easy-going, serious business minded, spiritual, intellegent and good people. They have no trouble and everybody love them.
We have been watching Jai's and other indians movie since. We applaud Jai for still being in th movie business. Bye
P, Manchester Amithab's unique wit and excellent, scarcastic humour when approaching Mausi with the marriage proposal!!!!
Vijay - Edmonton, AB, Canada My favorite is when Gabbar tells his men that the reason there is such a high bounty on his head is because mothers tell their children at night that if they do not goto sleep, Gabbar Sing is going to come and take them
Harbinder Riar, San Francisco, California The Train Robbery Sequence at the start of the movie. This scene was way ahead of it's time as far as Hindi Movies of that era was concerned. The photography, camera angles, sound quality etc., made for very exciting viewing on the Big screen in 70mm ! (comparable to Hollywood).
I was lucky enough to have seen Sholay twice like this ('Domnion' in Sothhall & 'Odeon' Hounslow West).
Abbas (peterborough) When Dharm was about to jump from the water tank.
Prashant Prabhudesai, Goa The best scene- When the dacoits kill the family members of Thakur's (Sanjiv Kapoor), the picture halts and then there is the sound of the swing.... Fantastic to cature the drama of the event....
Singh - Manchester Firstly when Jai dies....
Secondly the chemistry between Jai and Jaya (widow)......
Dr. Kamran Mufti, Watford (London) I love the movie as a whole.. All picturization, dialogues, songs, mean all the things are just brilliant. But the scene, I can't forget all my life is a very sad moment.. the scene when jai dies...i still cry when i see that..........
Sonia,Market Harborough My favourite scene would be the one wher Veeru teaches Basanti to shoot and they fall over.I like it because Dharamji had paid the camera man to retake that scene many times
AMRIT San Francisco when Veeru is drunk and trying to jump and Jai is talking to Mosee how good he is. and Veeru say "SALO MOSEE SA SHADI KOUN KARAGA. MA TO DHANO.. NAHI BASANTI SA SHADI KARNA CHATI HU...."
Abdul (dukz) London my fav scene would be when veeru gets drank after his marriage proposal is rejected by mosi and then to change her mind he treatens to comite suiside by jumping of the village water tank.
Bhaskara - Jeddah The scene when Veeru ask Jai to go and talk with mosee.
Dr. Ali This was a very good scene, but very sad.. its the scene when jai dies...i still cry when i see that. SHOLAY - THE BEST FILM EVER MADE!!!!!!!
Harry Sambhi, Amsterdam Gabbar's infamous line, when talking to his failed henchman! "jo dargeya vo samjo margeya".
The ultimate gangster film quote ever!
Rishi - LA, USA I love the bit where Jai goes to Basanti's Mausi to talk abt her and Veeru's marriage.."Kabhi Kabhi jua khel leta hai"..n all :P..quite funny..Over all the movie is THE Classic
Cheers
David Moore, Birmingham My favourite line in the film is definatley "Tera Kya Hoga Kaalia"
Suky Birmingham SOOOcide!!!!! Mohsi jail me Cahkki peesing and peesing and peesing......
Meed I say more?
Hema - Leicester, UK Chakki Peesing - enough said!!!
Nilanjana, Waford London I was watching Sholay the other day. This is probably the 4th time I've watched it.
But there was one scene which was so expressive and nicely done that I was wondering how I had missed viewing it this way before.
It is this scene when Amitabh Bachchan is dyeing and Jaya Bhaduri comes in running. If one looks closely; one can see the true feeling of immense loss in her eyes. She doesn't utter a word; but her expressions say it all. She had lost her husband before to the decoits; and again in life she 'dared' to move towards happiness; but fate had something else instore for her. Her expressions showed that she was she was so shocked and broken to come in term with the fact that everytime she moved towards happiness; happiness actually moved away from her.
Dipa - USA The scene where Jai (Amitabh Bachchan) says "Tumhara naam kya hai Basanti?"
Baadshah Shah Rukh Khan, from Birmingham 1) The scene and dialogue "tera kya ho ga kaalya?", "teenu bach gaye". (hehe... too funny!)
2) The scene in the song "Jab Tak Hai Jaan" (my favourite song). Love is at stake.
3) Hema Malini throughout the movie was amzing. She was (and still is) so beautiful.
Balraj Ahira Coventry The koi haseena song scene. When dacoo's are chaseing basanti on her tanga.
Umer Khan, Sutton Coldfield, Birmingham, UK where hema malini is praying to the idol and dharmendra is behind the idol acting as god and saying to hema that go and marry him. that was hilarious.
Param, Berkshire Love it when jai keeps making sarcastic comments to the non-stop talking Basanti. I love her repeats of i havent got a habit of talking yet she doesnt stop. One of my all time favourite films.
Ranjit Hall Green Birmingham Jai telling mosi all the good (bad) points of veeru must be one of the funniest scenes from bollywood.
mehnaz hussain, luton i personally like the scene were gabber singh is introduced, is brillaint. His entry on the rocks thrills the audience, and when he says the dialogue 'Pachas Pachas Kos Door Gaon Me Jab Koi Bachcha Rota Hai To Maa Kehati Hai, So Ja Bete; Varna Gabbar Aajayega' is tooo good
Salam, Camden/London Hi guys,
I just love this film. It was released in 1975 - the year of my birth, so we share something special!Am a bit suprised to see Haa Jab Tak Hain Jaan leading , I thought Yeh Dosti would be leading! All the track are winners. Can I get a 30th Anniversary Sholay poster?
Aasif Chanandin; Nashville, TN USA "Bohat thakat hai in haathon mein Thakur, mujhe yeh haath dehdoh thakur!!!!" And then Gabbar Singh procedes to make Sanjeev Kumar armless. One of the best scenes in the movie and cements Amjad Khan, and Gabbar Singh as one of the ultimate villians of all time.
Shafiq, Birmingham My fav scene is when Jai and Veeru come to the village and Basanti takes them on the Tanga to the village and in between Basanti goes we have been chatting ages but we don't know each others names, and Jai goes "Tumara Naam Kya Hai, Basanti"...
Erum Syed My fave Sholay moment is when Thakur is telling everybody why he could not pick up the gun during the Holi showdown.
It shows how ruthless Gabbur really was and why Thakur wanted revenge for the death of his family- great scene, great film!!!!!!!!!
Arun Basu, Melbourne, Australia i really like the jail scene, where asrani says "hum ungrezo ke zamane ke jailer hain".
i think that scene was hilarious.
Sadhana, Bristol I love this film and find it difficult to choose the best scenes. One not mentioned yet which always makes me laugh is the one where Jai goes to visit Basanti's Mausi to ask for Basanti's hand for Veeru and accidentally on purpose discloses all of Veeru's vices and of course the resulting bit with Veeru, drunk as a skunk, on top of the water tower lamenting his lost love and threatening to commit "soocide" and talking about Mausi going to prison and "chukki peecing"_ making me smile just thinking about it! My brother went to see Sholay in the cinema in India (at some point in its long run) and I was very jealous _ would have loved to watch in on the big screen!
Deepak , London I love the scene in which Asrani in Jail says haha, Hum to Angrejo ke jamane ke hai and then he suddenly takes hot weapon into hand. And that is memorable comedy which makes you laugh every time you see.
Jnyanendra, Hyderabad (India) My most memorable scene is when Gabbar Singh is introduced with the haunting background music. I was a kid then and I remember hiding my face in my two hands and peeping through gaps out of fear! Gabbar Singh–The ultimate villan.
yaser birmingham i like the schene where ahmed has died, and the villagers have a arguement with thakur about jai and veeru.
and ahmeds dad cries. and i like all da action scenes
kam in camden 'tera kya hoga kaliya' is my fav
Rachna I love the scene where Veeru is teaching Basanti to shoot mangos from the trees. Veeru's mischief, Basanti's innocence and Jai's sarcasm makes it's a unforgettable scene!
Neela, Leicester I love the scene when Dharmendra is tied up and Hema Malini has to dance on glass to save him. That's the ultimate test of love in any Bollywood movie. And it showed Gabbar Singh as the worst villain of all time.

I was watching Sholay the other day.

The scene where Jai (Amitabh Bachchan) says "Tumhara naam kya hai Basanti?"
Baadshah Shah Rukh Khan, from Birmingham
1) The scene and dialogue "tera kya ho ga kaalya?", "teenu bach gaye". (hehe... too funny!) 2) The scene in the song "Jab Tak Hai Jaan" (my favourite song). Love is at stake. 3) Hema Malini throughout the movie was amzing. She was (and still is) so beautiful.

where hema malini is praying to the idol and dharmendra is behind the idol acting as god and saying to hema that go and marry him. that was hilarious.

Love it when jai keeps making sarcastic comments to the non-stop talking Basanti. I love her repeats of i havent got a habit of talking yet she doesnt stop. One of my all time favourite films.

Jai telling mosi all the good (bad) points of veeru must be one of the funniest scenes from bollywood.

i personally like the scene were gabber singh is introduced, is brillaint. His entry on the rocks thrills the audience, and when he says the dialogue 'Pachas Pachas Kos Door Gaon Me Jab Koi Bachcha Rota Hai To Maa Kehati Hai, So Ja Bete; Varna Gabbar Aajayega' is tooo good

Hi guys, I just love this film. It was released in 1975 - the year of my birth, so we share something special!Am a bit suprised to see Haa Jab Tak Hain Jaan leading , I thought Yeh Dosti would be leading! All the track are winners. Can I get a 30th Anniversary Sholay poster?

"Bohat thakat hai in haathon mein Thakur, mujhe yeh haath dehdoh thakur!!!!" And then Gabbar Singh procedes to make Sanjeev Kumar armless. One of the best scenes in the movie and cements Amjad Khan, and Gabbar Singh as one of the ultimate villians of all time.

My fav scene is when Jai and Veeru come to the village and Basanti takes them on the Tanga to the village and in between Basanti goes we have been chatting ages but we don't know each others names, and Jai goes "Tumara Naam Kya Hai, Basanti"...
Erum Syed
My fave Sholay moment is when Thakur is telling everybody why he could not pick up the gun during the Holi showdown. It shows how ruthless Gabbur really was and why Thakur wanted revenge for the death of his family- great scene, great film!!!!!!!!!

i really like the jail scene, where asrani says "hum ungrezo ke zamane ke jailer hain". i think that scene was hilarious.
Sadhana, Bristol
I love this film and find it difficult to choose the best scenes.

I love the scene in which Asrani in Jail says haha, Hum to Angrejo ke jamane ke hai and then he suddenly takes hot weapon into hand. And that is memorable comedy which makes you laugh every time you see.
Jnyanendra, Hyderabad (India)
My most memorable scene is when Gabbar Singh is introduced with the haunting background music. I was a kid then and I remember hiding my face in my two hands and peeping through gaps out of fear! Gabbar Singh–The ultimate villan.
yaser birmingham
i like the schene where ahmed has died, and the villagers have a arguement with thakur about jai and veeru. and ahmeds dad cries. and i like all da action scenes
kam in camden

Rachna
I love the scene where Veeru is teaching Basanti to shoot mangos from the trees. Veeru's mischief, Basanti's innocence and Jai's sarcasm makes it's a unforgettable scene!
Neela, Leicester
I love the scene when Dharmendra is tied up and Hema Malini has to dance on glass to save him. That's the ultimate test of love in any Bollywood movie. And it showed Gabbar Singh as the worst villain of all time.
