Domestic violence is a major component
of crime for all of the UK’s ethnic groups.
But in the Asian community many women
are blackmailed and intimidated into
silence often to avoid shaming the family.
Patriarchy, the collusion of the extended
family, forced marriages, bigamy and the
sexual abuse of children all leave blood
under the carpet.
‘Reports from the Domestic Front’ reveal
the secret horror of Asian home rage and
the courage with which some women have
fought back.’

the Drive programme, on weekdays
between February 14th and February 21st.

Mirpuri: Gurpreet Johal, an outreach worker from the Ashram Project talks about working to reduce domestic violence in the community.
Gujarati: Mina Shah, a support worker from Leicester women's refuge talks about domestic violence.
Hindi/Urdu: Usha Masih, the founder of the Asian Woman's Helpline came on air, to talk about domestic violence.
Punjabi: Guests: Usha Kera and Ravinder Kaur of the Asian Women's Help Centre, Handsworth Birmingham were live in the studio.
