Sapna Dutta posed this question on Take Two on Sunday 16th November. Listen again to the full debate.
Why are Pakistani films always hushed out of the media? Does it always fall back on lack of originality and budgets? Would you support a Pakistani film if it managed to get screening in the UK? As Lollywood lovers await the arrival of Larki Punjaban do films like this really shows what modern-day Pakistani society is about? Have the likes of Javid Sheikh's Yeh Dil Aap Ka Huwa come and gone?
Has the quality of the films produced led to an increase in the popularity of TV serials? Why is this film industry turning into a dying trend? Are the people who make these films wasting their time and money?
Some of the people who took part in the discussion, legendary actor Mohammed Ali, Bahaar Begum, artists Mommar Rana, Nirma, Suad and singer Waris Baig along with director Shezad Gul and Rahat Fateh Ali Khan. We also spoke to Pooja Bhatt.
Here's what some of you think:
"The question you raise that do Pakistani films represent Pakistani culture - well the answer to that is no way! because the story lines are unrealistic and tend to be way over exaggerated. I think the Pakistani film industry needs to realise that they need to relate to the realistic lives of Pakistani people and the Pakistani culture if they want to see success. This is why Pakistani dramas and serials are world renowned" - Navidda Jabeen, Peterborough
"I think that Pakistani films were not as good as bolly movies because they didn't receive as much media attention as bolly flicks did and their budgets have always been very small" - Sadia, Sheffield
"I think Pakistani films lack credibility in lots of things such as sound, the prints of the film, the storylines and the dances. The dances in Pakistani films are quite disgusting!!" - Chaudhry, Birmingham
