    Nitin Sawhney
My Life, My Roots - In Music

    13 Aug 07
Nihal explores what the changing sound of British Asian music tells us about British Asian identity.

Since partition and the first waves of immigration in the 50s, music has always been used to preserve and pass on culture. In ‘My Life, My Roots – In Music’, we explore how the gritty folk songs of the immigrant evolved to become a powerful international sound, and ask what this success now means for the future of British Asian music.

Some of the biggest names in Asian music, from Nitin Sawhney, to Talvin Singh, Jay Sean and Rishi Rich reveal their thoughts on how their identity has influenced their music.
