    Me And My Swastika

Nerm asks if the time has come to wear his Swastika openly and freely.

The Swastika – It conjures up images of the Holocaust and Hitlers Nazi death camps during the Second World War.

But Nerm now wants to reclaim the Swastika. He wants people to recognise that it's 'his' symbol which means peace and goodwill. What reaction does he get when he speaks to those from the Jewish community who have lost parents and families killed during the Holocaust? Are Anti-fascist groups ready to offer their support and what happens when Nerm goes for a Swastika tattoo? Is Britain ready for Nerm and his Swastika in The Asian Network Report: Me and My Swastika.

    Producer : Martin Poyntz Roberts.

Re: Swastika: Perhaps we need to spell Swastika as Svas Tikha (two distinct words) and make the dots much more prominent in the drive to reclaim it from it's negative conotations?? Simplistic, I know but perception on a psychological basis is important...

It's been misconstrued for too long. A red symbol that has existed for thousands of years for peace, wealth and prosperity, that was turned to the side and written in black just 60 years ago - to bring about the exact opposite and the destruction in acid - by non other than the person himself, to himself the perpitrator..... Each line of the holy swastika has a meaning and is always used in hindu ceremonies and will always continue to exist.

Love the article! I use to shorten my name to Swas just because i didnt want to get the weird reactions that I always get, but now I really dont care and actually take time to explain what Swastika REALLY means!Happy Diwali.

This is long overdue, and extends also to the attempt by right wing European facists to claim other parts of ancient Asian history and myth as their own, to use it to jusitfy their twisted view of the world. This should be a global campaign.
