With a new acting school opening in Ealing later this year Asian Network Report finds out if only Indians with family connections and lots of cash or models with the looks can be the ones to succeed in Bollywood? Can ordinary British Asian's with the talent make it?
Born and raised in Wembley, actor Upen Patel talks about his journey to Mumbai and starring in Namaste London and Shakalaka Boom Boom. Its not been easy, he’s had to overcome prejudices about being a foreigner and his Hindi has held him back. Despite it all, he says its been worth it and hopes that soon he too can be a star like Shah Rukh Khan.
Geeta Basra is from Portsmouth and is convinced that she too can hack it. She reckons people from the UK can make it in Mumbai even though they’ve not got the family connections like the Kapoors or the Bachchans have.
But Asian Network Report discover it’s not just the lack of Hindi or family connections that’s holding British Asians back from their Bollywood dream.
Produced by Gurvinder Aujla & Perminder Khatkar.
