Asian Nation -My Life, My Roots, My Music

    01 Oct 07
Marking the end of the Asian Network’s ‘Asian Nation’ season, Noreen Khan explores what it means to be young, British, and Asian 60 years on from the partition of India.

Earlier this year the Asian Network took the biggest snapshot of British Asian life ever. To commemorate the 60th anniversary of the partition of India and the creation of Pakistan, we launched a summer long project to find out what’s important to you and why. The result was a wealth of programs looking at everything from how British Asians view their identity to opinions on money, sex, religion and our future here in the UK. Asian Nation reviews the ‘best bits’ of the season including moving memories of partition from men and women caught up in the traumatic events of 1947. We also hear controversial debates on virginity, sex before marriage, and homosexuality. With contributions from British Asians across the country this programme examines every aspect of British Asian life to reveal how we really see ourselves
