Asian Nation: My life, my roots, my music

Your Stories

Ayesha Assenjee

By: Ayesha Assenjee

I indentify myself as British Asian and also Mauritian.

At the risk of speaking for every other other Mauritian my story is strictly personal.

A great majority of the Mauritian population originate from the Indian subcontinent and for most of the people I know we still strongly indentify with our Indian roots. Although we are the 4th to 5th generation Mauritian and a lot of us cannot even speak an Asian language, we have never lost sight of our Indian heritage.

I am proud to identify with all three backgrounds.
