Asian Nation: My life, my roots, my music

Your Stories

By: Harriet

I live in West Cumbria, where there are very few asian people. I was born here and like many (including most relatives), have lived here all my life. However, from school, I have met my boyfriend who was born in Pakistan and moved over to England when he was two years old. We are both 17. His parents know nothing of our relationship and he finds it very, very difficult as there are so many restrictions of culture and religion which clash with British life. Also, my family and friends have taken a long time to accept the fact that he is with me. He himself does not belive in the Muslim religion but as it is so much a part of life for his parents has no choice but to continue living that lifestyle.
