William Sandys served for 26 years on the Bengal Establishment retiring as Lieutenant Colonel in 1805. He acted for some years as Adjutant General under the administration of the Marquis of Wellesley and after retirement, as magistrate for Cornwall. He married first Charlotte, daughter of Admiral Sir Digby Dent, then Eliza, daughter of John James of Rosemundy, Cornwall.
