Murillo was a Spanish artist who painted portraits and religious works. Around 1645 he created a series of eleven pictures of the history of the Franciscan order for a monastery which brought him immediate fame. In 1682, while working on the ‘Marriage of Saint Catherine’ for the Capuchin church of Cádiz, Murillo fell from a scaffold and died as a result of his injuries.
