William Pleydell-Bouverie, the 7th Earl of Radnor, was a direct descendent of Jacob Bouverie, Viscount Folkestone, the Society’s first President. Radnor was a member of the Society from 1946, serving as Vice President in 1947 and 1952–1968 and he was Chairman of the RSA from 1953–1954. 1954 was the Society’s Bicentenary year and this portrait, by Rodrigo Moynihan, was commissioned to commemorate the Bicentenary.
