Sir Peter Simpson is a consultant anaesthetist and was President of the Royal College of Anaesthetists from 2003 to 2006. Peter has a major interest in training, examinations, assessment and accreditation of anaesthetists and is a Board Member and Acting Chairman of the new Postgraduate Medical Education Training Board (PMETB). He is also Chairman and a Trustee of the National Confidential Enquiry into Patient Outcome and Death (NCEPOD), a past Chairman of the Royal Colleges International Forum and President of the Tri-Service Anaesthetic Society. A Physiology Examiner for Primary and then Part II of the Fellowship of the Royal College of Anaesthetists from 1984 to 1996, he also helped create the European Diploma of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care in 1984 and is now Chairman of the Examination Committee and a member of the Executive Committee and Senate, of the European Academy of Anaesthesiology.
