Sir Horace Jones (1819–1884) was hastily elected President in 1882, when the incumbent President, George Edmund Street, died suddenly in office. He was architect to the City of London and was responsible for both Smithfield Market (1866) and Billingsgate Fish Market (1875) and for Tower Bridge (1884).
