Geoff Gibbons was a miner at Coventry Colliery. He painted a number of pictures of pit life as he saw it. This one shows a locomotive underground pulling a spare battery off a manrider train. The distances underground were so huge that trains were needed to transport men and machinery. The painting also captures the organised chaos of pipes, cables and rails underground.
