Sir Joshua Reynolds was one of the eighteenth century’s most famous painters and the first President of the Royal Academy. He could command huge sums for a portrait, up to 200 guineas, and was a prolific worker. This is one of several contemporary copies of this self portrait by Reynolds, but the copyist is unknown.
