San Roque is a small town in Cadiz, on the southern tip of Spain. Edward Wolfe was born in Johannesburg and travelled to London in 1916 where he was to remain for most of his life. He studied at the Slade School of Art and was a member of the Bloomsbury Group. His affection for exotic places and the work of Matisse informed his use of joyous colours.
