Sir Francis Grant (1803–1876), PRA was elected ARA (1842) and then elected Royal Academician in 1851. He became President of the Royal Academy in 1866 through to 1878. He was a successful and fashionable portrait painter. His subjects included, amongst other prominent individuals, Queen Victoria and Palmerston (British statesman and Prime Minister).
