James Chesterton Bradley was curate at Oakworth, a village north-west of Haworth, from 1843 to 1845, at which time it formed part of the Reverend Patrick Brontë's parish. He is believed to have been the inspiration for 'Mr Sweeting', curate at Nunnely in Charlotte Brontë's novel, 'Shirley'.
