In his notebook, H. P. Blackmore, curator and director of Salisbury Museum in the mid–late nineteenth century, suggests this portrait shows the wife of Reverend Richard Blackmore of Donhead St Mary.
These were the ancestors of William and Humphrey Blackmore who were involved, respectively, in the founding and running of the Blackmore Museum, which later amalgamated with Salisbury & South Wiltshire Museum.
