Giuseppe Bonito was one of the most influential Neapolitan artists of his generation. In this early portrait, he skilfully renders the details of the sitter’s face, hand and costume against a simple background. Bonito went on to become a successful court portraitist and in 1753, he was made the official painter to the King of Naples.
