This painting is attributed to John Hazlitt who was the elder brother of the essayist William Hazlitt (1778–1830). No other portraits of Patrick Kelly are recorded except 'Dr Patrick Kelly', a bust by S. Gaghan which was included in the Royal Academy Exhibition of 1823. Patrick Kelly (1775–1842) was a Governor of the Foundling Hospital, 1812–1842.
